What is the process involved in making palm oil in palm oil mill plant?

In palm oil mill plant, there are mainly six steps to make palm oil. The first three steps focus on the palm bunches, including reception, sterilization and threshing. The detailed process of involved in making palm oil in palm oil mill plant is as follows.

1.The first step is to receive palm bunches.

In order to make high-quality palm oil, we have to use fresh palm bunches, so we should try our best to shorten the transportation time. It would be better if we sterilize the palm bunches in 48 hours after being picked. Once we picked the palm bunches, we should transported them to the plant by trucks as soon as possible. After being weighed by weighbridge, they will be downloaded to the discharge platform.

2.The second step is to sterilize palm bunches.

After receiving palm bunches, we need boil them by steam for 60mins, in order to damage the lipase and avoid the increase of free fatty acid (FFA), so as to improve the quality of palm oil. This step uses indirect steam sterilization to maintain the quality of the bunches, in case that the bacteria or other impurities contaminate the final oil. In this way, it will be easier to thresh the palm bunches and husk the nuts, as well as prevent the kernels from being damaged.

3.The third step is to separate palm bunches.

4.The forth step is to digest palm fruits.

At this step, palm fruits will be sent to digester to separate pulp and nuts and damage its cell structure. At the same time, we will boil the fruits at 90-100℃for about 20mins to soften the pulp. After digesting and boiling, we can get the mixture of damaged palm pulp, fiber and nuts.

5.The fifth step is to press palm fruits.

After the above steps, we can get palm fruits at the best state before being pressed. In the palm oil mill plant, we often use double screw palm oil press machine to get crude palm oil and the press cake. The crude palm oil includes oil, water and impurities, which needs further clarification. The press cake contains fiber and nuts, which can be further separate to make palm kernel oil.

6.The sixth step is to clarify and dry crude palm oil.

Clarification and drying of crude palm oil needs to enter four equipment. First, send the crude oil to the vibrating screento filtrate roughly. Then, oil clarification machinecan achieve crude oil sedimentation to get oil and sediment. After that, the oil can be sent to the plate filter to get relatively pure oil. Finally, send the oil to vacuum drying machine to remove the water, and get oil suitable for storage.
